AQUADUR Hardness Test Strips
For the quick and easy determination of water hardness.
Water hardness is determined by the amount of calcium and magnesium ions present in the water. Water hardness plays an important role in a wide variety of industries and applications.
Hard water can cause calcification and soft water can be corrosive, and so monitoring water hardness is very important for the protection of machinery, appliances, pipes, heating units and swimming pools, for example. Hard water inhibits the lathering of soap, so more detergent has to be used in hard water to achieve the same cleaning results as in soft water. Hard water can also adversely affect the taste and appearance of food. Some examples of industries where water hardness must be monitored include the food processing industry, laundry and sanitation, aquaculture, drinking water, textile and water treatment industries.
Water is often simply classified as "soft" or "hard". The following values generally apply to these terms:
>50 ppm CaCO3 = very soft water
50 - 120 ppm CaCO3 = soft water
120–240 ppm CaCO3 = medium hard water
240–360 ppm CaCO3 = hard water
< 360 ppm CaCO3 = very hard water
AQUADUR water hardness test strips are available in a wide variety of different gradations and packaging options.
